Although in ill health for the past eight months, his death came suddenly. Mr. MacKay was born at Upper Northfield on June 23rd., 1880 the son of Jotham and Sarah (Fancey) MacKay. As a young boy he moved to Roslindale, Massachusetts with his family, where he grew up. He was associated with Background painting, being manager of Fresno Scenic Company in Roslindale. His hobby was photography. In 1905 he moved to Nova Scotia and joined with his father and brothers in the manufacture of wooden boxes at Upper Northfield. In 1917 he moved his family to New Germany and operated another branch of the box factory at Indian Brook Falls until 1925. For 38 years he was employed at Zwickers' Box Factory as foreman of that part of the mill manufacturing small wooden boxes. He retired in August, 1965. In younger years he was active in Municipal affairs, secretary and trustee of South Rosedale School Section from 1918 until the single unit took over in 1946. He was also Justice of the Peace. During his last years he was devotedly cared for by his daughter, Ruth and family with whom he resided. He leaves to mourn the loss of a wise and beloved father and grandfather, one son, Lester of Truro; three daughters, Mrs. Helen Wile, Buckfield, Queens County; Ruth (Mrs. Silas Bolivar), at home; Margery (Mrs. Arthur Bolivar), Bridgewater; 24 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Kenneth at New Germany and many nephews and niecces. His wife, the former Phoebe Feindel, predeceased him 27 years ago and one grandson at Easter four years ago. The funeral service was held on Saturday, March 25th., at 2 p.m. from Epworth United Church, New Germany, of which he was a member. Rev. James Crooks officiated. Pall bearers were grandchildren, Glyn, Graham, and Merrill Wile and Lawrence, David, and Freddie Bolivar. Hymns were "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "The Lord is my Shepherd." Comforting words were read from Psalm 121; 1st.Cor.15:20-25, 35-38; Rev. 21 :1-4; and St. John 6: 37-40. Interment was at Lakeside Cemetery. With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
