Collen The Methodist church was filled to capacity Friday afternoon with relatives and friends, who assembled to pay a final tribute to James A. Collen, 75 year old Creighton citizen, who passed away at his home here the previous Wednesday of a heart attack. Brief services at the home at 2 o'clock preceded those held at the church. The officiating pastor was Rev. C.T. Haws, pastor of the Methodist church at Bloomfield. Flowers surrounding the bier included one from Creighton businessmen. Mr. Collen, who farmed west of Creighton until he retired to make his home here, was city assessor at the time of his death and had served in that office a number of years. A resident of the community for 37 years, he had acquired a wide circle of friends and acquaintances here. Pallbearers were Chas. Shankweiler, G.H. Wardell, H.O. Emory, A.L. Smith, P. L. Carroll and Barnhardt Jensen. Interment was made in Greenwood cemetery. James Arthur Collen was born in Barrington, Ill. on May 21, 1864 and died at Creighton, Nebr. June 28, 1839 at the age of 75 years, 1 month and 7 days. On November 22, 1886 he was united in marriage to Miss Tharza Miller at her home near Valley, Nebr. To this union were born eleven children, five of them preceding their father in death. They were, Arthur, Ethel, Herbert, Alvin and Arlie. The family moved to Creighton in 1902 and this has been their home since. There is left to mourn his passing, his wife, six children, Elmer, Mrs. Frank Carroll and Henry of Creighton; Lee of Somer, Ia., Roy of Newman Grove, Nebr. and Raymond of Omaha, Nebr.; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
