James A. Supple Among the first to be called was James A. Supple, who died at his home in West Cascade Thursday afternoon, February 15th, after a short illness, death being due to Bright's disease. Very few, outside of his family, realized the serious nature of his illness, and death came as a great surprise and shock to the entire community. James A. Supple was born on the old homestead in Clay township, Jones county, Iowa, August 8, 1869 and was a son of the late John and Mary Supple. He grew up on the farm and remained there until 1895, when he came to Cascade and entered into partnership with J. B. Dominy in the business of general blacksmithing and as dealers in farm implements until 1918, a period of twenty-three years when he bought Mr. Dominy's interests, and formed a partnership with his brother, E. Supple, under the firm name of Supple Bros., which existed up to the time of his death. Mr. Supple was a natural mechanic and readily grasped the line of work that he had taken up. Some years ago he had the misfortune to severely injure an ankle, which seriously handicapped his former extraordinary activities. Mr. Supple was married twice. His first wife was Miss Therese Carrick, daughter of the late John Carrick, whom he married in June 1897 and who died November 20, 1900. On February 28, 1905 he was married to Miss Ella McNally, a daughter of the late Robert McNally, who survives him with the following children: Mildred, Constance and James. He is also survived by his brothers J. E. Supple, of Cascade, and and Thomas Supple, of Castle Grove, Iowa, and his sisters, Mrs. Julia Flanigan, Mrs. James McNally and Miss Libbie Supple, of Cascade, and Mrs. John C. Gearhart, of Mason City. Mr. Supple was a consistent member of the Catholic church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Modern Woodmen, in all of which societies he was an insurance member. The funeral services took place in St. Martin's church at 9:30 a. m. Saturday, February 17th, Rev. L. Roche officiating. The pall bearers were John Moore, John Croston, A. R. Boyle, T. J. Devlin, Ben McQuillen, B. J. Otting, Ed. Parker and Leo Skahill.Among the relatives from abroad present at the funeral were. Thomas Supple and daughter Miss Mary, and son Joseph, of Castle Grave, Mrs. John C. Gearhart, of Mason City, Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Freitgen and Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Hayes, of Oelwein, Iowa, and Miss Lettte McNally, of Independence.
