Description	:	The Daily Jeffersonian, Cambridge, Ohio, Aug. 20, 1929: James Bartlett, 79, retired Noble County farmer, was instantly killed Monday night at Columbus when he walked into the path of an automobile driven by Emmett Robb, 500 Chilcote avenue, Columbus, according to word received Monday night by relatives in this vicinity. Read More	The Daily Jeffersonian, Cambridge, Ohio, Aug. 20, 1929: James Bartlett, 79, retired Noble County farmer, was instantly killed Monday night at Columbus when he walked into the path of an automobile driven by Emmett Robb, 500 Chilcote avenue, Columbus, according to word received Monday night by relatives in this vicinity. The fatality occurred at the corner of Summit street and Lane avenue while Bartlett was crossing the street. He had stepped from behind an automobile and was struck with great force by Robb's machine. Bartlett was hurled up onto Robb's automobile and fell from there into the street. He suffered a crushed head and shoulders. Both legs and both arms were broken. Robb reported the accident to police and was not held. The first message of Mr. Bartlett's death was received by his daughter, Mrs. Otis Davis, Belle Valley. Mr. Bartlett was born and reared in the Hiramsburg community, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bartlett. He was a successful farmer and moved to Caldwell 11 years ago after retiring. His wife died four years ago at the same place. After moving to Caldwell, Mr. Bartlett became a member of the Presbyterian church and was beloved by a wide circle of friends in Noble and Guernsey counties, who were saddened by his tragic death. The body will be taken to Cumberland for funeral services. Burial will be made beside the body of his wife in Cumberland cemetery. The deceased is survived by nine children, Mrs. Otis Davis, Belle Valley, Edward Bartlett and Mrs. Lewis Hedge, Noble County, Mrs. Lewis Palmer, Cumberland, Mrs. John Fletcher, Newcomerstown, Roy Bartlett, Indianapolis, Ind., and Mrs. Fred Grimes, Mrs. Alice McAdams and Miss Vina Bartlett, all of Columbus; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Mincks, Dungannon, and Mrs. Nannie Lashley, Beverly; one brother, Frank Bartlett, Columbus; 23 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
