A. Bivens) Wingate, June 16.-- In the passing of Mr. James Baxter Griffin on last Thursday, June 11th, Wingate lost one of its most substantial citizens. Mr. Griffin died suddenly about 3: 30 o’clock near Laurel Hill. He was section foreman on the S. A. L. Railway between Laurinburg and Laurel Hill and was at his post of duty when the final summons came. James Baxter Griffin was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hampton Griffin and was born in Union county sixty-two years ago. He married Miss Julia Perry and she and the follow children survive; J. Kemp Griffin, Rowland; W. M. Griffin, Laurinburg. Mrs. Clyde Thornburg, Dallas; Thomas Griffin, Charlotte; Misses Kate and Mildred Griffin, Vann and Woodrow, Wingate. He is also survived by the following brothers; Mr. Will Griffin, Marshville, Mr. Henry Griffin, Bostie. Mr. Cull Griffin, Pittsboro, Mr. Walter Griffin, Caroleen, Mr. Bob Griffin, Richmond. Va. Mr. Griffin was ever faithful and loyal to his family. His work kept him from home except on week ends but be was devoted to his family ties. He was a member of Meadow Branch Baptist church and could always be depended on to do his part in any financial support of the church. He not only gave of his means but was regular in his attendance to the church services. Funeral services were held at Meadow Branch Church on Friday afternoon at five o’clock conducted by his pastor, Rev. W. O. Johnson, assisted by Rev. A. Marsh of Marshville and Rev. Coy Muckle. Interment followed in the Wingate cemetery. Nephews of the deceased served as active pall bearers. Honorary pall bearers were Messrs. J. B. Gaddy, A. F. Hendricks, W. A. Williams. C. M. Beach. J. L.
