He has been ailing all winter but had been up and about until Saturday. He ate dinner Saturday and then laid down. His daughter Agnes who kept house for him observed there was something wrong and called a neighbor, Mr. D.L. Thomas. James was then unconscious. They placed him on the bed and called a doctor.... The ailment was apoplexy and he remained unconscious until the following Monday evening when he passed away. He had lived in this country for many years and a couple of years ago, Mrs. Wolfe died. James was born in Ireland in March, 1832, to Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Richard Wolfe. He immigrated to the US, having departed from Liverpool, England, and arrived in New York, New York on 23 August 1847, at age 16. He was on the ship Cornelia. He married Mary ___, also born in Ireland. She was about 7 years younger. They were the parents of 4 children, Greg James who became a machinist, Frances who died when a young adult; Mary Agnes who became a teacher; and Morris/Maurice. He leaves to mourn his loss, two sons, Greg of Mason City, and Morris, one daughter, Agnes, and several brothers and sisters. He was about seventy seven years old at the time of his death. The funeral was held Wednesday morning at the Catholic Church, services conducted by Rev. Father McDonald after which the body was laid to rest by his wife and one son in the Catholic cemetery south of Audubon.
