Fowler, aged 78 years, died at his home in this city, Sunday Jan. 12th., at 10:30 a.m. He was an old and highly respected citizen of Valley Falls, and he leaves a wife and a large family to mourn his loss. __________________ [same page] Obituary - James Carlisle Fowler, born in Adams Co., Ohio, Feb 11, 1818, died Jan. 12th., 1896. His parents emigrated to Lexington Ky., when he was yet a child. He was married to Miss Eliza R. Davidson, of Farmington, Iowa, April 3rd., 1850. Nine children were born to them, eight of whom are living He moved with his family to Kansas in '79, locating at Valley Falls, where he has lived ever since. Since he was 21 yrs. of age he has been a sufferer from a broken limb. In 1851 he was connected with the Cong'l. church, and afterwards with M. E. church, and died with the blessed assurance that all was well and he was only waiting to be called. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday, and an honored citizen, a kind hearted man was laid away to rest. So long he had been among us here, doing kindly acts and speaking helpful words of hope and good cheer, he seemed indeed, a father to us all. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From the 1800 census of Delaware twp., Jefferson Co., Kansas, James' father was from Virginia and his mother was from Kentucky. Also, their five youngest children were born in Iowa and Albert & Everet (both age 9) were born in Missouri.
