Description	:	Charles James Warner, son of Charles A. and Harriet Warner, was born in Geneva, Neb., March 29, 1878. His father, a Civil War Veteran, was one of the early settlers in this county. He was serving as sheriff at the time Charles was born. January 1, 1900, Charles was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Heller. His father, a Civil War Veteran, was one of the early settlers in this county. He was serving as sheriff at the time Charles was born. January 1, 1900, Charles was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Heller. The wedding took place at the Heller home near Geneva, the ceremony being performed by Rev. F. A. Colony. Mr. and Mrs. Warner began their 51 years of happy married life in this vicinity. Forty-two of those years were lived in Fillmore County. Nine years were spent in the city of Lincoln, after which they moved back to Geneva. Mr. Warner served his community in many ways. In private life he farmed and was for a time an oil and gas dealer, the first in Geneva to erect a filling station. He served the county as sheriff for six years, from January 1, 1917 to January 1, 1923. Mr. Warner was a member of the Geneva lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, and was a 32nd degree member at Lincoln. His talents were often called upon by the Geneva Masonic lodge and the Eastern Star chapter of which he was also a member. He was a past master and past worthy patron in these organizations. In his religion, Mr. Warner was equally diligent. He was a member of the Congregational Church, which he attended with fine regularity. He was serving on the board of trustees at the time of his death. The end of life came Thursday afternoon, March 29, 1951, on the seventy-third anniversary of his birth. He suffered a heart attack while driving in the country and life was extinct when passers-by found him. Besides Mrs. Warner, he leaves two brothers and two sisters: Mrs. Lulu Jensen of Oklahoma City, Okla., Harry Warner of McCool Junction, Neb., Dr. L. H. Warner of South Laguna, Cal., and Mrs. Orpha Kelch of Geneva. Funeral services were held at the Geneva Congregational Church Monday, April 2, at 2 p.m. Rev. William G. Bohi officiating. A double quartet, George G. Brown, Guy A. Brown Jr., Kenneth Heisey, Robert Hackett, Sheldon Johnson, Charles Shaw, Wallace Swanson and Richard Wagner, sang “Lead Me Gently Home, Father” and “Going Down the Valley.” Mrs. Sheldon Johnson was accompanist. Pallbearers were George Decker, Harold Gergen, Derrel Hutchens, Eric Johnson, George Taylor and Earl Verry. Interment was in the Geneva Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal April 5, 1951 page 1.
