Description	:	James Corwin Perkins son of Joseph and Eliza Perkins, was born April 26, 1854 and passed from this life at his home in Bonaparte Sept. 28, 1934, aged 80 years, 5 months and 2 days. Mr. Perkins was born in Van Buren county and spent a large part of his boyhood and young manhood in the old brick home so beautifully situated on the south bank of the Des Moines river. Read More	James Corwin Perkins son of Joseph and Eliza Perkins, was born April 26, 1854 and passed from this life at his home in Bonaparte Sept. 28, 1934, aged 80 years, 5 months and 2 days. Mr. Perkins was born in Van Buren county and spent a large part of his boyhood and young manhood in the old brick home so beautifully situated on the south bank of the Des Moines river. On Sept. 19, 1876, he was united in marriage to Miss Luella Meredith. To this union were born two children, Shirley Wayne, who departed from this life Jan. 2, 1904, and Mrs. Gertrude Neally, who passed away Dec. 15, 1932. Mr. and Mrs. Perkins had been married 58 years at the time of his decease. He joined the Methodist Episcopal church years ago and was still a member at the time of his death. He lived south of Bonaparte all of his life with the exception of the last two years when he retired to his home in Bonaparte where he passed away. He was one of seven children and had one half-brother and one half sister. He is survived by his estimable wife, his son in law, Elmer Neally of Bonaparte, one sister, Mrs. Sarah Peterie of Bonaparte and one brother, William H. Perkins of Norwalk, Calif. During his last illness he was tenderly cared for by his wife and Mr. Neally and many friends. He will be remembered by his neighbors and friends as a good neighbor and staunch friend, ever ready to lend assistance where needed, oft times to his own inconvenience. He was honorable in all his dealings. His passing will be a matter of regret to all who knew him. Funeral services were conducted on Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the Bonaparte Methodist church of which he was a member, under management of the local pastor, Rev. D. D. Flanagan. Rev. G. W. Barber, a lifetime friend of the deceased, delivered the sermon from the subject, "I know that my Redeemer liveth and on the earth again shall stand." Interment was in Bonaparte cemetery in the family plot. Rev. Barber is four years older than the subject of this sketch.
