Description	:	Shirley Wayne Perkins was born September 14th, 1883, near Bonaparte, Iowa, and died at the home of his parents, on the second day of January, 1904, aged twenty years, three moths and 18 days. Read More	Shirley Wayne Perkins was born September 14th, 1883, near Bonaparte, Iowa, and died at the home of his parents, on the second day of January, 1904, aged twenty years, three moths and 18 days. Shirley was the only son of James and Luella Perkins who with one sister, Gertrude, are left to mourn the loss of a son and brother. The greater part of his life has been spent at the family home south of Bonaparte. He received his education from the Bonaparte public schools. Shirley wished to become a printer and worked about one year with Sherman Brothers until last year when his health failed. He grew worse rapidly and had been confined to his bed for the last twelve weeks. All that loving hearts and hands could do would not prevail against that dread disease of consumption. He professed faith in Christ and of the seventh day of October, 1903, received the sacrament of baptism and united with the Methodist Episcopal church of Bonaparte. The above sketch is a short obituary of a young man well known to the people of Bonaparte. He was born near Bonaparte and all his short life was spent in this neighborhood. He was in the High School while the editor of the RECORD was Principal but was unable to attend regularly because of lung trouble. He could not stand the confinements of the school room and quit a year before graduation. He was a compositor on the Bonaparte Bee for a year but this was also too confining for him. Since that time he has been with his parents on the farm south of town but has gradually grown weaker and could not drive away the disease which was gradually wearing his life away. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church, Rev. Erskine officiating. The pall bearers were cousins of the deceased. The auditorium of the church was filled with sympathizing friends of the deceased and of his parents and sister. The occasion seemed unusually sad for the young man was just getting to the age where he could begin to take his place in the world of business, and his relatives and companions with grief stricken hearts followed the body to the grave with greater anguish of heart than if the young man had been permitted to live for the allotted three score years and ten.
