Cooper. -------------------- From a 1914 Nance County, Nebraska, newspaper clipping file, transcribed by Linda Berney: James Kennedy Passes Away - Dies at Hastings Hospital and body is brought home for burial - Mr. James Kennedy, son of Conover and Katherine Kennedy was born in Wahoo, Nebr., on the 13th day of May 1879 and passed away July 25th, 1914, age 35 years, 2 months and 13 days. Mr. Kennedy's early life was spent in Nebraska. In 1888 he enlisted in the Nebraska regiment that fought in the Spanish-American War, and was among those that protected their country's flag in the battles of '88 and '89. After the war he returned to Nance county and resided on a farm near North Star. He joined the Evangelical church and was a devoted member until death's call. He also was affiliated with the Oddfellows and Modern Woodmen in which orders he was a faithful member and a beloved friend. He was united in marriage to Miss Lulu Vaughn on April 14th, 1910, and to this union was born three children, Gladys, Francis and Ammy. He leaves to mourn his death his father, Mr. Conover Kennedy, of this city, a wife and three children, three sisters, Mrs. Ella Swanson, a resident here, Mrs. Becklam of Boone County, and two brothers, William and John Kennedy of Belgrade, also a half-sister, Myrtle Kennedy of Fullerton. The subject of this sketch has been deeply afflicted for a long time, calling forth the sympathy and efforts of those who knew him best, as well as of the Orders to which he belonged, and everything that could be done was gladly and faithfully tried in his behalf. Some time ago he was sent to the hospital for treatment, but no relief, and on Saturday morning the silver chord was loosened and the slender thread that binds man to earth was severed, and James Kennedy was swept from earth's moorings and carried from the shores of time, to the vaster Eternities, and was not, for God took him.
