(Vere) Cook, a former resident of the Osage community died Monday September 1, in the Halstead Hospital, following a major operation at the age of 76 years, one month and 15 days. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Osage Church of the Brethren, conducted by Revs. D.P.Neher and G.A. Zook and burial took place in the Osage cemetery. Paul bearers were Sam Ulery, Eli Ulery, Will Ulery, Glen Turney, Earl Morrision and Theodore Nicholson, the singers were Juanita Morrison, Margaret Scott, John Mohler and Leonard Kays. Mr. Cook was born in Henry county, Illinois July 15, 1865. He came with his parents to Crawford county when two years of age, and settled on a farm three-fourths mile east of the Osage church which place was the family home for many years. He was married to Rosa Ann Ulery in 1889, and after their marriage they continued to live on the farm where he grew to manhood. She died August 25, 1933. In about 1915 Mr. Cook left the farm and moved to Pittsburg where he cared for his aged father until his death. He became a member of the Christian Church in Pittsburg in 1927. Several years ago he went to Pueblo, Colorado where he made his home until last month, when he was returning with his son to Kansas where he hoped to visit his old home community. He is survived by three sons, Charles D. of Waco, TX; Van L. of Arkansas City, and William R. of Dallas, TX, and a brother, A.B.Cook of Pueblo, CO.
