Descended from a pioneer Jacksonville family, he attended Lee High School and attained a BA degree from the University of Florida in Real Estate following active duty in WWII. Baker, Jr., Life ended quietly for Jim Baker on December 10, 1999. Jim was devoted to his family, his church, and his business. Descended from a pioneer Jacksonville family, he attended Lee High School and attained a BA degree from the University of Florida in Real Estate following active duty in WWII. He was twice Chairman of the Board of Ruling Elders, served as a Trustee, and was twice Clerk of the Session of Riverside Presbyterian Church. Beginning in 1969, Jim was involved in his Church's Mission of care for seniors residing in Presbyterian Apartments and House. AT the time of his death, he was chairman of the Board of Directors of Presbyterian Apartments and House. He was on the executive committee of the Presbyterian Retirement Communities, which oversees all Presbyterian retirement communities in Florida. Jim was a founding member of the Southside Exchange Club and served as its President. He became a REALTOR in 1950, owned Jim Baker Corp. in San Marco from 1953 to 1998, and worked until this final illness with ERA Davis & Linn. In addition to his own business, he served to further the growth and professionalism of the Board of REALTORS. In 1954, he served as President of the Property Managers association, and, in 1959, he served as President of the Institute of Real Estate Management and was a Certified Property Manager (CPM). In 1973, he was President of the Multiple Listing Service and in 1974 was President of the Board of REALTORS. Additionally, Jim was honored as ``REALTOR of the Year'', was given the Big ``R'' award, and was the second recipient of the prestigious ``Circle of Honor'' award. He received a lifetime Achievement Award from ERA Real Estate Franchise, and, most recently, he was the first REALTOR to receive the newly designated Presidential Lifetime Service Award. Jim was born in the Avondale area of Jacksonville on December 21, 1924, son of James D. and Margaret Baker in a home a block from where he raised his own family. Survivors are his devoted wife Bebe (Evelyn); sons, James Duncan Baker III (Julie R.) Louis Anderson Baker (Susan G.) Robert M. Baker (Nancy N.); grandchildren, Catherine M. Baker, James D. Baker IV, Elizabeth A. Baker, Jennifer L. Killingsworth, and Tory A. Baker; sister, Margaret B. Berg (Randal C.); brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Mena (Mildred) Burns and numerous nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held at River Presbyterian Church at 11:00 on Monday, December 13, 1999. The memorial service will follow a private family burial service at Evergreen Cemetery.
