Description	:	Funeral services for James Edward "Jim" Porter, 62, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. today at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence. Mr. Porter died Oct. 23, 2005, at home. He was born Nov. 26, 1942, at Wellsville, the son of Floyd Gerald and Naomi Rose (Caruthers) Porter. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1960 and later enlisted in the U.S. Navy for six years, earning the National Defense Service Medal and two Good Conduct Awards. Read More	Funeral services for James Edward "Jim" Porter, 62, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. today at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence. Mr. Porter died Oct. 23, 2005, at home. He was born Nov. 26, 1942, at Wellsville, the son of Floyd Gerald and Naomi Rose (Caruthers) Porter. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1960 and later enlisted in the U.S. Navy for six years, earning the National Defense Service Medal and two Good Conduct Awards. He worked at Campus Hideaway Pizza Parlor while in high school. After leaving the service, he worked for a total of 10 years at Ship Winter Chevrolet and later for Dale Willey, attending the GM Parts Manager School. He worked for James Gang Auto Parts, Hillcrest Bowl and as a security guard at Wolf Creek Nuclear Plant during its construction. He worked for the KU athletic department from 1987 until June 1, 2005, when he retired. He was a member of the Lawrence Men's Bowling Association, serving as director for 20 years. He married Georgia "Jeannie" Bell July 27, 1975, at Lawrence. She survives of the home. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles Porter and Carl Duane "Butch" Porter. Survivors include his wife; a son, Scott Bain, Lawrence; two daughters, Cheri Bain and Crystal Porter, both of Lawrence; two brothers, Robert Porter and Billy Dean Porter, both of Lawrence; a sister Wanda Vickery, Lawrence, and two grandchildren. Burial will be at Wellsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
