He attended schools in Goldendale where he graduated from high school. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1963-1967, he also was trained as an electrician while in the Navy. He was self educated. Jim married Patricia K. Linden, on Dec. 21, 1968. They had three children and raised them in the Goldendale area where they were actively involved in the community. In 1972, Jim started his own construction business and then expanded it into concrete and aggregate production. Riley Bros. Concrete, Inc. Later he and his brother, Matt, started the Rapid Readymix Company. Because he loved the community and Klickitat County, he know he had to become involved. He served on the Goldendale City Council, and later Klickitat County Economic Development Board, the City of Goldendale Airport Advisory Board, Land and Natural Resource advisory Board, and the Columbia George Regional Airport Board. Along with working hard, he also played hard. He loved riding his Harley and his dirt bike, and snowmobiling with his sons and friends in the Simcoes. He was a lifetime member of the Harley Owner's Group, the NRA, the American Legion, and member of the Blue Ribbon Coalition, the Washington Cattlemen's Association, the Evergreen Freedom Foundation and others. Jim was preceded in death by a son, Justin; his parents, Ivan and Mildred Riley; his brother, Alan; his sister Linda, a nephew, Jason; and his dog Keo. Survivors include his wife Patricia; children [names redacted] all of Goldendale; and [daughter's name redacted] of Alaska; grandchildren; brother and his wife; his nieces, nephews, in-laws; and his beloved extended family of friends. A memorial in his honor will be held Saturday, Feb. 15, 11 a.m. at the New Life Assembly of God Church, located 1602 S. Columbus, Goldendale. A dinner will be served at the Goldendale Grange Hall after the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the NRA or the Evergreen Freedom Foundation in care of Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel, 300 West Broadway, Goldendale, WA 98620.
