A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding, with the Rev. Matthew Koperski officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 299 of Spalding. Dolce-Scheef Mortuary in Spalding is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Meyer was born Jan. 25, 1944, at Spalding, the son of Albert and Eunice (Marisch) Meyer. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding and received his education at Spalding Academy, graduating in 1962. Following graduation, he worked as a heavy equipment operator in Lincoln, and later on Missile Silos at Minatare. James then moved to California, working for a time before he was drafted into the United States Army on May 12, 1965, and served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on May 11, 1967. In 1967, James married Susan Lewis and they had two children, Rob and Rich, while living in California. Jim worked on various road construction and dam projects, including the Feather River Project. They bought the family farm in Spalding in 1973, and they made their home there and had two more children, Jim and Carol. In 1992, James married Patricia “Pat” Fritz Dahlgren and they made their home on the farm near Spalding. Jim and Pat enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren, camping, boating and horseback riding. Pat passed away in March of 2004. James was a member of the American Legion Post 299 of Spalding, VFW, Men’s Club, Spalding Booster Club, Nebraska Cattleman’s Association, and was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association. James is survived by four children, Rob (Elizabeth) Meyer of Albion, Richard Meyer of Omaha, Jim (Michelle) Meyer of Howell, Mich. and Carol Hartweg of Lincoln; seven grandchildren, Alee Mullings, Isabella, Kaitlyn and William Meyer, Grace, Garret and Gavin Hartweg; a brother, Leonard of Grand Island; and two sisters, Patricia (Frank) Dowd and twin sister, Janice (Bob) Rishoi, all of Omaha. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Pat.
