Read More	his is typed directly from a copy of the obituary in the local paper. James Edward Powers was born at Quebec, Canada, March 6, 1866, and died at Marquette, Iowa, Sept. 22, 1931. At an early age his father brought the family to Harpers Ferry, Iowa. Three boys, John, James and Thomas and three girls, Anna, Kathryne, all deceased and Mary Ann of North Bend, Nebr. James was untied in marriage to Rose Mary Gonier in the year 1889. To this union came three boys and four girls, Thomas, James and Martin, Mary, Louise, Rose and Kathryne. Thomas, his son, preceded him in death by three years. Since his marriage he made his home at Harpers Ferry, Waukon Junction and Clayton, Iowa. In 1908 he moved to Marquette. He was employed all this time by the C. M. ST. P. & P. railway Co., as Section Foreman, giving his valued service even to the end. The end came as a sudden blow to his family and friends. When on the night of September 21st, he was called out at 12:50, to take a tree from the tracks at Yellow River. While waiting for his men, he was inquiring of the train crew the location of the tree, turning to go he stepped in front of an approaching switch engine. His honesty, kind disposition and integrity will always live in the minds of all knew him. Burial services were held from St. Mary's church at McGregor, Rev. Father Horsfield officiating and interment was made in the Catholic cemetery.
