Read More	source: Arlington News, January 27, 1947, pg. 1 LAST RITES FOR JAMES RAWSON HELD HERE LAST FRIDAY Funeral services were held in the Methodist church here Friday for James Rawson, 72, who died late Tuesday afternoon following a long illness, at the home of his son, Howard, at Independence, Iowa. James Edward Rawson, second son of James Deloss and Mary Rice Rawson, was born near Arlington, February 17, 1874, where his early life was spent. He attended rural school at Taylorsville, Iowa and completed a commercial course at Upper Iowa University at Fayette. At an early age he was baptized in the Methodist faith and joined the Methodist church at Arlington, where he remained a member until recent years when he moved to Independence and transferred to the First Methodist church of that city. On March 25th, 1897 Mr. Rawson was united in marriage to Florence Lillian Deming of Arlington, Iowa. To this union were born six children, two girls and four boys: Dorr of Center Point, Mrs. Clyta Humphrey of Arlington, Dale of La Habra, California, Mrs. Cleo Whitaker of Madison, Wisconsin, Harold of Castalia, and Howard of Independence. Outside of two years spent in South Dakota, his entire life was spent farming in the Arlington community until Feb. 1935 when he moved to his present home near Independence, Iowa. Mr. Rawson has been in failing health for the past 4 years, but was able to be around until Dec. 18, 1946, when he became bedfast. He gradually became weaker until on January 14 at 3:30 p.m. he was called to his heavenly home at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 28 days. Had he lived until March 25, he and Mrs. Rawson would have celebrated their golden wedding. Mr. Rawson was a kind husband and loving father. The joys he reaped from life were in giving to and doing for others. He was always ready to help a friend or neighbor. He always looked forward to the house spent with his children and grandchildren, whom he leaves to mourn - his wife, 6 children, 20 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, also an only brother, Orange S. Rawson of Arlington. Those preceding him in death are his 3 sisters: Mrs. Almena Riser, Mrs. Ive Newton and Mrs. Blanche King, 2 grandchildren Beverly Jean Rawson and Harry Haldaine Whitcher. The funeral was in charge of Rev. Harold Singer, Independence, Iowa and Rev. Braulick sang during the services. The Pall Bearers were: Chas. Schroeder, Dean Richards, Harry Taylor, Dick Newton, Jay Richards, Frank Thompson. Interment was in Taylorsville cemetery.
