Bedell Passes Away in Agency at Advanced Age. RESIDENT OF THE COUNTY 57 YEARS Was a Native of Ohio–Resided Several Years in Indiana and Came to Hawkeye State in 1846–Funeral to Be Held Friday. Agency, March 19.–(Special)–After a lingering illness lasting for several weeks, James E. Bedell, one of the early pioneers of this county passed away at his home here, Wednesday afternoon about 3:30 o’clock, at the age of 78 years. Funeral services will be held over the remains at the Methodist Episcopal church in Agency Friday morning at 10 o’clock conducted by Rev. J.C. Kendrick, pastor of the church. Native of Ohio. James E. Bedell was born in Warren county, Ohio, February 6, 1925. When about 6 years of age he removed with his parents to Union county, Ind. Here he spent his childhood days and when 14 years of age he moved to Fayette county in the hoosier state. Comes to Iowa. He 1846 he decided to come further west and crossing the Mississippi river he came into Iowa and located in Wapello county near the old Indian agency. Since coming to this state Mr. Bedell has been a continuous resident of Wapello county and is widely known among the older residents. In August of 1846 he was married to Miss Susan Jones, who passed away at the home in Agency March 13, 1901 [sic]. Prominent Church Member. During the years Mr. Bedell has resided in this city he has been a prominent member of the Methodist Episcopal church and has done much toward building up its interests in the community. Always upright and honorable in his dealings with his fellow men, he was greatly respect by all who knew him. During the past few years he has become quite infirm by reason of approaching old age, and his life has been quite closely confined to the home in Agency. The deceased is survived by one sister and two brothers, the latter residing in Nebraska. ---------------------------------------------- James E. Bedell had an estate here in Wapello County, Probate Date April 2, 1903, File #001955, Box#38, Film #162. The Executor was his nephew, William H. Miller. Since James and Susan left no children, his heirs were his two living brothers, George W.M. Bedell and Hugh E. Bedell, of Custer CO., Nebraska, his living sister Sarah, and the children of his deceased brothers and sisters as follows: 1. Nancy O. Hill, signed for her mother, Sarah Yaryan, who was still living but elderly and living with Nancy. 2. Children of sister, Elizabeth (Bedell) Jones: Nancy L. McKee, Andersonville, IN William T. Jones, Connersville, IN John B. Jones, Franklin CO., Ind 3. Children of sister, Mary Miller: William H. Miller, Wapello CO., IA Mary C. Long, Ottumwa, IA Clara B. Dimmitt, Ottumwa, IA Mary's daughter Sarah E. Moss was deceased. Her proceeds went to her four children: Mary A. Miller, Calhan, CO Henry Moss, Calhan, CO Amelia Warren, Calhan, CO Caleb Moss, Calhan, CO Mary's son, Benjamin Franklin Miller was deceased. His proceeds went to his two sons: William B. Miller, Hugo, CO Jacob A. Miller, Hugo, CO 4. Children of brother, David E.
