Description	:	John Bedell was in Ohio, the first of six children born to James and Nancy (Oakley) Bedell. Nancy Oakley was born December 15, 1779, to Sylvanus & Sarah (Palmer) Oakley and married James in New Providence, NJ, on October 5, 1791. Read More	John Bedell was in Ohio, the first of six children born to James and Nancy (Oakley) Bedell. Nancy Oakley was born December 15, 1779, to Sylvanus & Sarah (Palmer) Oakley and married James in New Providence, NJ, on October 5, 1791. It is not known when either James or Nancy died or where they are buried. James Bedell was born August 16, 1770, in Morris Twp. NJ, to William and Esther (Littell) Bedell. James is named as an heir in William's estate, which is on file in Warren County, OH. James and Nancy moved to Ohio in 1792, when James' parents, William and Esther, moved there from Morris CO., NJ. As family history tells us the family first settled near Cincinnati, it is probable that John was born there. In 1795, the Bedell family moved from Cincinnati to Warren County, where they built the blockhouse that came to be known as, "Beedle's Station." The name Bedell, sometimes spelled Bedle, somehow came to be known as Beedle in Warren County, and this spelling has stayed with many Bedell descendants to this day. According to information researched by Mary Gallaher Forgy and placed on file with the Warren County, Ohio, Historical Society, William Bedell/Beedle is credited with founding Beedle’s Station, the first settlement in Warren County, Ohio. Ms. Forgy writes, “The Warren County Historical Society announced that a bronze plaque placed on a large boulder would be placed in the roadside park at the intersection of Routes 63 and 741 about 4 miles west of Lebanon, Ohio, in commemoration of this founding. . .The roadside park in which the plaque was unveiled is perhaps about two miles from the site of the old block house erected by William Beedle and his family when they came to Warren County, O. - the actual site of the block house being in a swampy place not easily accessible to the average person who might be interested in the marker.” On Page 434 of, "The History of Warren County, Ohio," by W.H. Beers & Co., Josiah Morrow, an early settler in Warren County, made this statement about William Bedle: "The clothing of the grandchildren is said to have been made principally out of dressed deerskins and some of the larger girls were sometimes clad in buckskin petticoats and short gowns." As John Bedell was a grandson of William, this gives us an interesting picture of how he dressed in the days of his childhood in Warren County. This book may now be read online. John was married to Nancy Enyart on March 12, 1812. This is the date given in all of the histories of this family; however, I have never been able to find a marriage record. John and Nancy's first nine children, Sarah, Elizabeth, Mary, Hester Ann, William, John Wesley, James Enyart, David E., and George W.M., were born in Warren County, Ohio. Hester Ann died when she was 1 year and 4 months old and John Wesley died when he was only 1 week old; they are no doubt buried in Warren County. Around 1830, the family moved to Union County, Indiana, and two children, Hugh and another son named John, were born there. This other John is the one who is buried in Round Point. In 1839, the family moved to Fayette County, IN, and two children, Benjamin and Nancy Parmelia, were born there. These two children only lived for a few months and are probably buried in Fayette County. On January 5, 1846, John and Nancy sold their 137½ acres in Fayette County and moved to Wapello County, Iowa.
