Kearney, 68, retired automobile dealer and well known figure in political circles died about 9:45 a.m. Sunday in his home at 419 Ninth street. Mr. Kearney had been in ill health for several years but earlier that morning had been downtown. He had returned home and was lying down for a nap when death came. The body reposes in the Hanrahan funeral home where it will remain until the funeral time. Mr. Kearney was born Oct. 21, 1877 near DeWitt, a son of the late James and Susan Kearney, and spent his entire life here. He was married to Elizabeth Kane May 9, 1905, and she died in Feburary 1908. On May 3, 1920, he was married to Mrs. Katherine Barid. She survives with two brothers, M.J. Kearney of DeWitt and John K. of Davenport, two sisters, Mrs. T.F. Crowley and Miss Bridget Kearney, both of DeWitt, Mrs. Swisher Wilson, Moline, Ill., and Comdr. L. James Baird, Hawthorne, Nev. Mr. Kearney was prominent for many years in Democratic circles and served as county supervisor for several terms. He had one of the first Ford car agencies in the state and at the time of his retirement from active management of the garage business eight years ago, held a record for length of service as a Ford dealer. In earlier years he had attained prominence as a livestock dearler and he had engaged in buying and selling real estate and in the management of his farm interests. He had been a member of the Spring Brook Sportsmaen's club and of Archbishop Hennessey council Knights of Columbus and was a past member of the Elks and of EdWitt Community club. Within the last several weeks of his life he donated land on the west border of DeWitt, to be used as the site of DeWitt Community hospital.
