Description	:	James Francis Batty (also known as Beanie) died Friday, November 26 at Everheart Hospice at Wayne Healthcare in Greenville, OH, one day before his 93rd birthday. Born November 27, 1928 in rural Russia, OH in Shelby County, he was the 12th of 13 children (10 of whom lived past infancy) born to the union of William and Christine Francis Batty. Read More	James Francis Batty (also known as Beanie) died Friday, November 26 at Everheart Hospice at Wayne Healthcare in Greenville, OH, one day before his 93rd birthday. Born November 27, 1928 in rural Russia, OH in Shelby County, he was the 12th of 13 children (10 of whom lived past infancy) born to the union of William and Christine Francis Batty. Survivors include: his devoted daughter, Gloria J. Batty; a wealth of caring nieces and nephews; and a special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Susette Kruckeberg. In 1950, James (also known as Beanie) married the love of his life, Laura Jean Kruckeberg, who preceded him in death in 2002. Preceding him in death were his parents; mother-in-law, Chelcie Kruckeberg; his son, Daniel J. Batty. Also preceding him in death were his siblings: Paul; Georgiana Thiebeau; Ruby Subler; Louis; Virgil (Red); Joseph; Leo; Robert; and Cecilia Graves. He left school at 17 to join the Navy serving two years off the coast of Italy at the end of WWII. Beanie was very patriotic and a member of the Vets Club and American Legion serving as an Honor Guard for more than 35 years. Beanie spent most of his working career as a toolmaker at Century Electric in Gettysburg, OH. Following the closure of the Gettysburg shop, he attended JVS in Piqua, OH and attained his GED. He then worked as a security guard for the Miami Centre Mall and the French Oil Co., both in Piqua. Beanie loved animals, books, playing cards and checkers, working crossword puzzles, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. He enjoyed working on small motors and would refurbish old mowers and bicycles until they operated and looked new. He also liked going to auctions and yard sales. His was a kind and gentle soul, slow to anger and was nonjudgmental. He made the world a better place simply by being who he was. He cherished all the friends he'd made throughout his life, but his childhood friends from Russia always held a special place in his heart. Services by Zechar-Bailey planned for Spring 2022 with inurnment at Greenlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the FISH Food Pantry or the Darke County Humane Society, "for the cats".
