He was born at home on Aug. 26, 1941, on the family farm in Greenfield Township, Jones County, Iowa, the second child of Francis and Bessie Wethington Crock . He graduated from Mechanicsville Consolidated Schools in 1959 and Iowa State University in 1963. Jim returned to Jones County and began farming in the fall of 1963, purchasing his farm three years later. Della Kay Sparks became a part of his life. They were married May 11, 1968, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mechanicsville. Jim and Della together raised their children - Barb, Joan, Lee, Ryan and Joell. Jim participated actively in community and church activities all his life. He belonged to Phi Kappa Theta fraternity and Lions Club, served on the Lincoln school board for 15 years, was a 4-H leader with the Cedar County Pork Center Don Juans and Pioneers for 35 years and had been named an honorary FFA member. Jim belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church all of his life and actively practiced his faith over the years, serving as a catechism instructor, parish council member, Eucharistic minister and active parishioner. Jim loved life and all the good things that were part of his life, especially spending time with his family, sharing his farm with others, enjoying livestock shows, cattle sales, auctions, a chat at the sale barn, a good card game, riding in his truck, a cup of coffee and a donut at Casey's, talking on the front porch swing, his John Deere 4020, picnics in the timber and his grandchildren, Austin, Rebecca, Lindsay and Leah. He loved the people around him and just spending time together. Jim is survived by his wife, Della; family: Barbara Crock , Michelle Scheidt, Joan and Drew Garner, Austin and Rebecca, Lee and Lori Crock , Lindsay and Leah, Ryan Crock and Joell Sparks; parents, Francis and Bessie Crock ; sister, Jeanette Bagley and family; brother, Duane Crock and family; and in-laws, Clyde and Genevieve Sparks. He was a friend to all. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Friday, St. Mary's Catholic Church. Friends may call from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel, where a Scripture service begins at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials for James F.
