Description	:	Memorial services for James F. Murphy, 74, were held Saturday, October 7, 1972 at 2 p.m. in the United Methodist Church in Nelson, with Rev. Richard Ludden officiating. Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery with the Klawitter Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, October 12, 1972 ============================== James Francis Murphy, son of James Casey and Catherine Elizabeth, was born Aug. 15, 1898 at Nelson, Nebraska and passed away October 5, 1972 at the Nuckolls County Hospital at the age of 74 years, 1 month, and 20 days. He had been a patient for one week after suffering a heart attack. Mr. Murphy spent his entire life time in Nelson except for a few months in Ruskin and the time he spent in the Army during World War I. He retired in December 1970 after 52 years in the Commercial Bank. He was preceeded (sic) in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife and two daughters Mrs. Joe L. Wilson, of Omaha, Nebraska and Mrs. Jon D. Thayer, of Belleville, Kansas, one brother, Mr. Everett Murphy of Neligh, Nebraska, three sisters, Mrs. Henry Dillman of Nelson, Mrs. John Herman of Oak, Nebr. and Mrs. Howard Wagner of Edgar, Nebraska, and two sons-in-law, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was united in marriage to Mary Belle McCutchan, December 27, 1919. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and served on the board for a number of years and was active in church work. He was a 32 year Mason, a noble of the Shrine and a member of the Nelson American Legion Post. He served on the school board, a board member of the Good Samaritan Home and did many things to earn the respect of the community. Memorial services were held Saturday, October 7, 1972 at 2 p.m. in the United Methodist Church in Nelson, with Rev. Richard Ludden officiating. Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery with the Klawitter Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers: LaVerne Clabaugh, Lee Clabaugh, Jack Wehrman, Bill Schnitker, Ellis Garrison, Don Biltoft. Organist: Janet Schnitker. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wilson, Omaha, their sons family, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wilson and daughter, Council Bluffs, Iowa; Dr. and Mrs. Jon D. Thayer and family of Belleville, Kansas, their son, Jon D. Thayer and wife, Forrest Grove, Oregon, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Murphy, Neligh, their son and daughter, Dr. William Murphy also of Neligh, Mrs. Dave Janovy, Mankato, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. John Herman, Oak, their son, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Herman and family of Leigh, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wagner, Edgar; Mrs. Shirley Hines and daughter, Clay Center; Florence Connell, Emma Ryan and Mrs. Jerry Besley all of Fairbury; Mr. and Mrs. Clift Adams, Miss Harriet Adams, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Black and Erline, Neva Lamborn and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Luce and daughter all of Grand Island; Mr. and Mrs. Don Rust, Geneva; Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Ely, Auburn; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Melton, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Melton, Dr. and Mrs. H.D. Doubek, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Cook and Harold Johnson all of Belleville, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. Bud Ficken, Hebron, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wagner, Jr., Bruning; Rev. Henry Foege, Lincoln and many friends from near by towns. World War One Buddies who attended in a group were Frank Kubat, Wm. Konzack, H.M. Crilly, E.C. Washington, Wm.
