Funeral services were held from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home here Monday afternoon, February 22, conducted by Rev. A.R. Farley, pastor of the Ness City Assembly of God Church. News, Feb. 25, 1960 James Franklin Cofer, oldest child of Alexander and Mina Cofer, was born on a farm northeast of Hoisington, Kansas, October 5, 1880, and departed this life February 19, 1960, at Larned, Kansas, at the age of 79 years, 6 months, 14 days. James spent most of his earlier years around Hoisington working for the Missouri Pacific railroad. In 1917 he was united to Clara Luta of Idabelle, Okla., and to this union were born three sons and one daughter. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Hoisington. He is survived by two sons, James of Hutchinson, Maj. Charles R. Cofer of Rapid City, S.D.; one daughter, Mrs. Vada Fintch of Palo Alto, Calif.; his wife, Clara; stepson, Pete of Idabelle, Okla.; five brothers, Arthur Cofer of Ransom, Harry Cofer of Lawrence, Louis Cofer of Atlanta, Ga., Floyd Cofer of Denver, Colo., Orvil Cofer of Tacoma, Wash.; one sister Mrs. Ferris M. Green of Austin, Colo.; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, February 22, from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City. Interment was in the Ransom Cemetery.
