Read More	Died, At Chanute, Kansas, Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 2 a. m., a comrade - Mr. J. F. Ogden, of Co. G, 125th Illinois Infantry. He was mustered into the United States service Sept. 3, 1852. Received his first baptism of blood at Perryville, Kentucky, Oct. 8, 1862. He fought in the battle of Chickamauga and also took an active part in the battle of Mission Ridge, in 1863. He started out on the Atlanta campaign May 6, 1864, and skirmished with the rebels at Dalton, Georgia, was in the battle of Snake Creek Gap in ’64 and took an active part in the battle of Buzzard’s Roost in 1864. He also fought in the battle of Rome, Ga., and the battle before Dallas, Ga., in 1864. In this battle we were sent out to relieve the 22nd Indiana, which was on picket. It being dark, the rebels charged us with cowbells, to make us believe it was a herd of cattle. They barged past Ogden and his comrades for our main line of battle. Ogden and his comrades followed after them, aiming to kill the Rebel officer, who with an oath ordered his men to put the cold steel to the Union men. Ogden aimed at the officer with his gun, but it failed fire. He also took an active part in the battle of Kenesaw Mountain, where he received a wound in one of his lower limbs which undoubtedly hastened his death. He became paralysed in both of his limbs on the 2nd of last September, and passed away on the 28th at 2 p.m. He was a good soldier, never shirking duty, and a good citizen, as well as a kind husband and loving father. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn his loss, besides hosts of friends and comrades. The G. A. R. of Chanute took charge of his remains and bore them to the Chanute cemetery, where they were laid to rest. He was a strong Republican and, before he died, advised the comrades that were with him then to vote for Benjamin Harrison. The family have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.
