Nelson CRISFIELD—A double funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Asbury United Methodist Church here for James Gary Nelson, 52, and his wife, Marita M. Nelson, 49, of Bel Air. Nelson was formerly of Crisfield and a member of the church. His wife was killed Sunday and he died in Peninsula General Hospital Medical Center soon after a single car accident on Route 13 near Peggy Neck Road in Somerset County. The Nelsons were en route back to their home after attending a homecoming service and dinner at Asbury Church when the accident occurred. Officiating will be the Rev. John Mitchell and interment will be in the church cemetery. He was born here and was a son of Raymond Nelson of Crisfield and the late Doris Sterling Nelson. Nelson was a mechanical engineer at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds for the Department of Defense. He was a professional musician and played piano for the band, "The Top Hats." Nelson was a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and was a member of the Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association. Surviving in addition to his father are four children, Lynn Goodrich, Christopher Nelson, Reno, Nev., Jennifer Nelson, Bel Air, and Lt. Gary Nelson Jr., stationed at Ft. Ord, Calif. Jenifer Nelson is also the daughter of Mrs. Nelson and the other three are her stepchildren. Mrs. Nelson, a teacher in Hartford County, was born in Kentucky and was a daughter of the late Pies and Fannie Dean Carmon Matthews. Her additional survivors are three brothers and a sister, Kenneth Matthews, Louisville, Ky., and Robert Matthews, David Matthews and Margie Matthews, all of Kentucky. Friends may call at the Sterling Funeral Home here Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. A memorial service is also planned Friday at 7 p.m. in the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Churchville, Md. Contributions may be made in the memory of the deceased to the Asbury United Methodist Church, or to the Lower Somerset County Ambulance and Rescue Squad, both Crisfield, Md. 21817.
