State of South Carolina, York District I James Glenn now of the district and state aforesaid aged Seventy three years born in Berkeley County Virginia as appears by a statement that I have seen in my father's books on oath declare that the following is a true statement of the military services which I performed during the Revolutionary War: my first services were as a private from Lincoln County North Carolina in the militia where I then resided and was out four months with the state troops under General Rutherford [Griffith Rutherford] of Rowan County, Colonel William Graham of Lincoln County & Captain John Barber. This service was against the Cherokee Indians in the year 1775. This service was performed as a substitute for my Father. My next service was a three months tour in a troop of mounted Riflemen under Captain John Carruth to range in Lincoln & Rutherford counties N. C. collecting the Tories that had gone off to Ninety six & had returned home and bringing them to trial to be sent to the regular service. This service was performed as a volunteer in the year 1777 or 1778. My next service was a tour of one month under Captain John Robinson in the Cove of Green River guarding the frontiers against the ravages of the Indians in the year 1777 or 1778. My next service was a four month tour in a troop of mounted Riflemen under Captain Malcolm Henry & Colonel William Graham and was in the Battle at King's Mountain. This service was performed as a volunteer in the year 1780. My next service was a three month tour under Captain Thomas Lofton to go to Wilmington but was ordered back by General Rutherford to serve out the time in Lincoln County collecting the Tories & bringing them to trial. This service was performed as a volunteer in the year 1781. I do also certify and affirm upon oath that my name is not now nor has it ever been on any pension Roll of the Agency of any State and he does hereby release & relinquish all claim to any pension or annuity whatever except the present. He further states that he has no discharges, nor can he furnish now any written evidence of his Services, but he refers to the annexed affidavits of John Berry, Samuel Caldwell, Robert Berry, James Robertson, John Clarke & Robert Berry for proof of his statements.
