Description	:	James Gordon Tooley was born on January 14, 1914 in Oakland, Iowa. He was the son of John "Ed" and Hazel Jarrett Tooley. Gordon attended kindergarten in Oakland, Iowa. where he continued school until he graduated in 1933. He met Clara Mae League, and they were married on October 11, 1938 in Walnut, Iowa. Afterward they began farming south of Minden. They had three children; James, Virginia and Debra. Read More	James Gordon Tooley was born on January 14, 1914 in Oakland, Iowa. He was the son of John "Ed" and Hazel Jarrett Tooley. Gordon attended kindergarten in Oakland, Iowa. where he continued school until he graduated in 1933. He met Clara Mae League, and they were married on October 11, 1938 in Walnut, Iowa. Afterward they began farming south of Minden. They had three children; James, Virginia and Debra. After farming for some years, Gordon and his family moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where he was a garbage collector. Then he worked at his father-in laws' drayline company in Walnut. He eventually purchased the company, which led into masonary work. In 1968 he began working for the City of Walnut at the water plant. He retired from the city in 1981. Gordon had several hobbies, including baking bread and cookies and gardening. He and his son took yearly trips to Lac Seaul in Ontario, Canada to fish for walleye and northerns. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and a volunteer fireman. Gordon passed away at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, Iowa on November 14, 2004. He was 90 years old. Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Merlan, his wife Clara Mae, and his daughter Virginia Bock. He is survived by his son, James and his wife Janice of Walnut, Iowa and daughter Debra and husband Doug Marsh of Omaha, Nebraska. He also leaves to mourn his passing 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Contributed by Glenna Thompsen.
