Morton was born July 13, 1847 in Kensauqua, Iowa, and departed this life near West Grove, Iowa, February 21, 1925, aged 77 years, 7 months and 8 days. He was married to Mahalia Hayden, November 15, 1874. Six children were born to bless this home, Ollie Warren of West Grove, Iowa; Minnie Staggs of Seymour, Iowa; Bert and Elmer of Craig, Mont., and George of Unionville, Mo. One daughter, Etta, preceded him in death November 9, 1898. He leaves besides his children his faithful companion, nine grandchildren, one brother, two sisters and a host of relatives and friends. He was the fourth child of thirteen children. Those living are Clay of York, Neb., Lucy Stump of Farmington, New Mexico and Frankie Crews of Effingham, Ill. He was converted about thirty-five years ago and united with the United Brethren church. He loved to live and work for his master until God relieved him of his suffering. His death has left a sad spot in the home and hearts of his many friends. His children were all with him during his last moments, except Bert, who could not come on account of sickness. One sister, Mrs. Crews, was also with him. Funeral services were held at the *** church, Monday at 2 o'clock, led by Rev. Trostle of Bloom**. Interment was made in the Bethel cemetery.
