Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Allen, with the Rev. Sarah Lutter officiating. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery. "Bud" Mitchell was born Dec. 13, 1922, in Wakefield, to Ernest "Jack" and Mabel (Isaacson) Mitchell. He was baptized at the Methodist Church and attended school in Wakefield. Bud served in the Merchant Marines in World War II, working at Martin Bomber Plant in Omaha, Neb., and Lockheed Lightning Bomber Plant in California. Bud married Kathryn Belt on Oct. 11, 1946, at Emerson, Neb. They lived on a farm northwest of Allen until 1957, when they moved into town. Bud worked as a carpenter until 1960, and then was employed until 1977 by Allen Lumber and Hardware, which was purchased by the Allen Co-op. Bud finally retired in 1993. Bud was a member of First Lutheran Church of Allen and served on the church council several terms. He also was a member of the Allen Fire and Rescue Units, Floyd Gleason Legion Post 131 and Missouri Valley Merchant Marine Veterans. Survivors include five sons, Gary and his wife, Carolyn of Norfolk, Neb., Dennis and his wife, Kathy and Jim and his wife, Janice, all of Wayne, Bob of Allen, and Duane and his wife, Jackie of Fremont, Neb.; a twin sister, Estelle Potter of Omaha; a brother, Eugene and his wife, Lois of Destin, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
