The funeral was held from the home yesterday sfternoon, Rev. M.S. Satchell, of Hershey, conducting the services. Interment was made in the North Platte Cemetery. James H. Davis was born in Ohio, March 25, 1845. Died at the home of his sister, Mrs. N.B. Spurrier, Nov. 8, 1915, at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 18 days. When only sixteen he enlisted in the Civil War, in which he served over three years, until he was disabled at Pleasant Hill, La. In 1866 he was married to Mrs. Louisa Jay, who survives him, together with one daughter, Mrs. W.L. Kingman, three grandchildren, and his sister, besides a host of friends. His last days were full of pain, but through it all, he was patient and uncomplaining. He said he was not afraid to die, and the end at last, came peacefully." James was wounded at the Battle of Pea Ridge, Arkansas. Served in Co. D, 14th Iowa Infantry. He is buried next to his father in the North Platte Cemetery. After his death, his wife lived at the South Dakota State Veterans Home in Hot Springs, and is buried in the State Veterans Home Cemetery there.
