Description	:	James Henry Parker was born 10 Jun 1829 to Capt. James and Temperance(Hathaway) Parker, in Osterville, MA. By age 21 in 1850, he was reflected as a sailor, as his father had been before retiring to become a farmer. On 16 Jun 1852,James married Velina Lovell, daughter of another mariner, Capt. Joshua and Lydia (Scudder) Lovell. In the Hamlin Family genealogy, he was noted as being a Republican, Freemason, and Universalist. By the 1860 census and in the 1890 History of Barnstable , he was considered a "master mariner". They had children Charles Francis (1854-1904), Ida May (1857-1858),Russell Lovell (1859-1861) and Cora Augusta (1860-1933), who married Granville W. Hallett. He and Velina lost two of their children in infancy between 1858 and 1861, which was followed by the death of his wife on 3 Mar 1862. James then re-married on 11 Mar 1863 to Louisa H. Bearse, presumed daughter of Nelson and Clorinda Bearse, who survived him to re-marry John Baker in 1874. Capt. Parker was in command of the schooner "Abbie Bursley" on 26 May 1869 when he was lost overboard during a storm in Nantucket Sound off Montauk Point,Long Island, at the age of 39.
