Description	:	James Cooper died at his home just across Cooper's bridge, in Middletown township,last Wednesday night. He had been sick a long time, and the immediate cause of death was heart failure. Mr. Cooper was born in New York city on August 16, 1805. He learned his father's trade, that of a mason, but in 1830 he went into the grocery business at the corner of Greene and Grand streets, where he stayed until 1841, when he bought the property on which he died. Mr. Cooper was born in New York city on August 16, 1805. He learned his father's trade, that of a mason, but in 1830 he went into the grocery business at the corner of Greene and Grand streets, where he stayed until 1841, when he bought the property on which he died. The farm contains a hundred acres and Mr. Cooper paid $11,000 for it. Mr. Cooper's wife died about a year ago. They had eight children, six of whom are now living. Freeholder Jehu P. Cooper is the oldest. The others are Dr. James E. Cooper, of Colt's Neck; Geo. E. Cooper, of Red Bank; Annie; Mrs. George C. Murray, formerly of Middletown village; and Mrs. Francis T. Chadwick of Red Bank. Mr. Cooper was fond of shooting, and for thirty years he nev3er missed spending a few days at Barnegat in the ducking season. The shooting grounds of the Riverside gun club were on his farm and he was much interested in the contests of the club. In politics Mr. Cooper was a Democrat. His funeral took place on Saturday afternoon from the house. The interment was made in Fair View cemetery. Red Bank Register, Wed., Mar. 5, 1890
