Description	:	James Howard Delos Bostwick was born in Jackson Co., Michigan, Sept. 10, 1846, son of Jonathan H. Bostwick and Edith Blunt Bostwick. The death date and burial site for Johathan Bostwick are not known, Edith Bostwick died near Des Moines, Iowa, burial in Union Cemetery, Polk Co., Iowa. James died of emphysema at the Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. A death certificate does not exist at the Marshalltown courthouse. Read More	James Howard Delos Bostwick was born in Jackson Co., Michigan, Sept. 10, 1846, son of Jonathan H. Bostwick and Edith Blunt Bostwick. James died of emphysema at the Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. A death certificate does not exist at the Marshalltown courthouse. James enlisted in Company B, Tenth Ohio Cavalry, at Newark, Ohio, Jan. 16, 1864 and was discharged July 24, 1865 at Lexington, North Carolina. He married (1) Sarah Jane Williams (1842-1923) From this marriage there were born five children, born in various parts of the country. Sarah was later committed to an asylum and the children were placed by their father in the Soldiers and Sailors Orphans home in Dayton, Ohio, where they stayed until they were finished with school. Sarah is buried in an unmarked pauper's grave at Zenia, Ohio. James married (2) Annie E. Willett Jennings, a widow, on Jan. 2, 1901, in Pueblo, Colorado. He was not divorced from Sarah, so we have to presume he was a bigamist. On his disability pension filing, he claimed his wife had died, though we know now that Sarah did not die until 1923, so this was clearly a false statement. Annie is listed as his widow and applied for widow's pension. It is assumed that she was merely an innocent victim of all the false statements James made. James's occupation was carpenter. While this brief bio may seem harsh, we have to acknowledge that James Bostwick was a veteran and is buried in a National military cemetery with honors due a veteran of the Civil War.
