Description	:	Ellen is the second of six children born to Jonathan H. Bostwick and Edith Blunt Bostwick. Ellen married three husbands and outlived all of them. Married (1) Dr. William W. Hogan, born about 1840 in Putnam County, Indiana. They were married 7 July 1861 in Floyd County, Iowa. William died 30 Sept. 1871, Waterville, Marshall, Kansas from an overdose of Laudanum (morphine) used to treat chronic diarrhea. There were no children from this marriage. William died 30 Sept. 1871, Waterville, Marshall, Kansas from an overdose of Laudanum (morphine) used to treat chronic diarrhea. There were no children from this marriage. William served in the Civil War. He and his brother-in-law enlisted Aug. 1864 at Brookfield, Missouri, 42nd Missouri Infantry Regiment. He was hospitalized in Nashville for measles Jan. 1865 and was mustered out June 1865 for disability due to chronic brochitis. Burial site for Dr. William has not yet been found. Ellen moved back to Iowa sometime after William's death. Ellen married (2) Alpheus R. Bishop. She was his second wife, and he was 21 years older than Ellen. They married 11 Feb. 1878 in Floyd County, Iowa. A.R., as he was known, was first married to Mary (maiden name unknown) and they had eight children. When Ellen and A.R. were married, Ellen became instant step-mother at 32 years of age to five of those children. They lived on his farm. A.R. died in 1895 and is buried in the Chickasaw Co. cemetery, with his first wife and four of his children.The cemetery was directly across the road from the Bishop farm (which no longer exists). Ellen and A.R. had no children from their marriage. Ellen continued to manage the Bishop farm with the help of a nephew and his wife. Ellen married (3) Mitchell Lewis Jackson. Marriage records from Chickasaw Co., Book 19-260, show marriage 1 August 1904 in New Hampton, married by C.R. Shatto, Congregational minister. Mitchell had been married previously to Sylvia Jane Reed and they had six children born in Ohio. We do not have an accurate record of when the family came to Iowa. After Sylvia died in February 1904, Mitchell married Ellen and she again became step-mother to more children. At some time after 1910, they moved to California and Mitchell died there April 1915 and is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale. There were no children from this marriage. Ellen returned to Iowa, and not much is known about her from then on. When she died, it was decided not to ship her body back to California to be with her 3rd husband, and since there were spaces in the Chickasaw cemetery, she was buried with a small marker in the Bishop plot of her second husband. Several pieces of furniture that belonged to Ellen and Mr. Jackson as well as personal items have remained within the family with various nieces and nephews.
