Description	:	James Hughes, one of the most widely known residents of Plymouth county, died shortly before midnight on Saturday at St. Joseph's hospital in Sioux City from blood poisoning. Mr. Hughes had been in poor health for some time, suffering from an abscess in the region of the ear, and went to Sioux City to undergo an operation. Read More	James Hughes, one of the most widely known residents of Plymouth county, died shortly before midnight on Saturday at St. Joseph's hospital in Sioux City from blood poisoning. Mr. Hughes had been in poor health for some time, suffering from an abscess in the region of the ear, and went to Sioux City to undergo an operation. James Hughes was born in County Cavan, Ireland, on September 12, 1844. Following the great famine in Ireland in 1847, his parents in 1848 came to America to seek advantages denied them in their native land. They located first in Cleveland, Ohio, where they lived for a few years and in 1854 moved westward, settling in Jackson county, Iowa. There Mr. Hughes grew to manhood and acquired his schooling. He met the young woman who became his wife, their families being neighbors and pioneers together. James came to Plymouth county in 1873 and located in Stanton township. He married Mary E. Keenan on May 25, 1876, and to their union 13 children were born. One daughter, Rose, who had attained young womanhood, died about three years ago. Twelve children, with their mother, are left to mourn: Simeon of Stanton township; Mrs. John Dominic of Luverne, Minn.,; James of Hawarden; Joseph of Fedora, S.D.; Thomas of America township; Mrs. F. Beguin of Luverne, Minn.; Michael, Leo, Philip, Ella, Bernard and Clarence, who are still under the parental roof. He is survived by one brother, Simeon, who resides in Edmonton, Alberta, and 12 grandchildren.
