Description	:	OBIT: James Hurt Mundy, widely known retired Kitttias Valley rancher and western pioneer, died Saturday at the age of 92 years in the Yakima Nursing Home after an illness of several months. Born in Alabama, December 5, 1853, he was the son of Irish immigrants who came to the United States from Northern Ireland, settling in South Carolina and later moving to Alabama. Read More	OBIT: James Hurt Mundy, widely known retired Kitttias Valley rancher and western pioneer, died Saturday at the age of 92 years in the Yakima Nursing Home after an illness of several months. Born in Alabama, December 5, 1853, he was the son of Irish immigrants who came to the United States from Northern Ireland, settling in South Carolina and later moving to Alabama. When he was a small boy, his family moved to Texas in a covered wagon drawn by oxen. The family settled in the plains of the Texas Panhandle. His parents died when he was about nine years old and left him, as the oldest in the family responsible for earning a living for his brothers and sisters during the Civil War. He became a pioneer cattleman in the Panhandle. He acted as singing master in the settlement for many years and served as county commissioner. He was married to Elizabeth McAllister n Bowie County, Texas. Their family numbered eight sons and three daughters. They moved to Ellensburg in October 1906. He farmed on the West Side for three years and then established the Lone Star Ranch southeast of Ellensburg in 1909. He resided there until the ranch was sold to Alva Bull. Since that time he has made his home with members of the family. He is survived by six sons, Walter A. Mundy of Fort Worth; C. C. Mundy of Wrangell, Alaska, and Dr. J. H. Mundy, A. Jerome Mundy, Ellison Mundy and Wilbur Mundy of Ellensburg; two daughters, Mrs. Mae Coburn of Yakima and Mrs. Eula Harrell of Ellensburg; one sister, Mrs. A. A. Martin of Forth Worth; a brother, Harris Mundy of Shamrock, Texas; 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Two other sons, H. C. Mundy and Robert Roy Mundy, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Honeycut Chapel with Rev. William Martin officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery.
