Keenan, 17, of Nelson died Sunday afternoon at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior from injuries received in a pickup accident. Keenan, eastbound in a 1973 Chevy pickup, apparently lost control of his vehicle and went over an embankment on a graveled county road 2 1/2 miles west of Nelson. Keenan, 17, of Nelson died Sunday afternoon at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior from injuries received in a pickup accident. Keenan, eastbound in a 1973 Chevy pickup, apparently lost control of his vehicle and went over an embankment on a graveled county road 2 1/2 miles west of Nelson. A passenger in the pickup, Carroll Sole, 18, also of Nelson and Keenan were thrown from the vehicle. The extent of Sole's injuries are not known at this time, however, he is still a patient at the hospital in Superior. Funeral services for Keenan, a Junior at Nelson High School, were held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the school's gym. Father John Prachar officiated. =================================== The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, October 4, 1979; pg. 15 James Joseph Keenan, the youngest of five children born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Keenan, was born on September 4, 1962, in Hebron, Nebraska. He passed away in Superior from injuries received in a traffic accident on September 23, 1979. At the time of his death, Jim was enrolled as a junior at Nelson High School. During high school, he participated in basketball, track, choir, F.F.A. and N Club and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nelson. Jim was well known in the community as a willing and able worker because of the numerous and various jobs he performed. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Joseph. Survivors include his mother, Mary Keenan; three sisters, Diane Keenan of Arcadia, Mary Jo Keenan of Macomb, Illinois, and Mrs. William (Rosalie) Zook of Ogallala; one brother William K. Keenan of Ericson; one niece, Tina Zook; one nephew, Timmy Zook; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Brand Sr. of Madison; aunts and uncles, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Keenan of Amarillo, Texas, Mrs. Evelyn Zahm of Spalding and Mrs. Leo Brand Jr. of Madison; and a host of friends and other relatives. Rosary services were held Tuesday, September 25, at 7 p.m. from the Klawitter Funeral Homje in Nelson with Father John Prachar officiating. Services were held Wednesday, September 26, at 10:30 a.m. from the Nelson High School gymnasium in Nelson. Pallbearers were Phillip Wehrman, Duane Drohman, Jr., Mike Culbertson, Mike Goslin, Leon Elsey and Jack Flanigan. Congregational hymns were sang, led by the St. Joseph Catholic Church Choir and organist was Mrs. Leonard Rempe. Father John Prachar officiated and burial was in the Nelson Cemetery. The Klawitter Funeral Home of Nelson was in charge of the arrangements. THANK YOU...
