He was born May 9, 1928 at Leon, Iowa to Charles and Charlotte Ackerley Draper. He married Dorothy Mae Greenfield Aug. 16, 1968. Read More	KEOSAUQUA — James L. Draper, 78, of Keosauqua, died at 10:50 a.m., Monday, July 24, 2006, at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center, Keosauqua. He was born May 9, 1928 at Leon, Iowa to Charles and Charlotte Ackerley Draper. He married Dorothy Mae Greenfield Aug. 16, 1968. He grew up in Leon and attended school there and served in the U.S. Navy for seven years during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He worked on highway construction, worked for the city of Buffalo Center, Iowa and retired as Maintenance Superintendent for the city of Panora, Iowa. He also lived in Hedrick and Douds where he did carpenter and maintenance work. Surviving are his wife; a son, James Allen Draper (Tonya) of Shallowater, Texas; two stepsons, Dennis Greenfield (Sherry) and Herbert Greenfield (Janice) of Ottumwa; a stepdaughter, Teresa Arnett (Jerry) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a stepson-in-law, Cecil Hamberg of Keosauqua; two grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley Collins (Floyd) of Leon, Beverly Draper of Princeton, Mo.; and Barbara Thusen (Paul) of Wellsburg, Iowa; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepdaughter, Sheila Hamberg; and several brothers and sisters from a family of twelve. In accord with his wishes, the body has been cremated and there will be no visitation. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 2006, in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, east of Douds, Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Military rites will be in charge of Beer-Barker Post No. 113, American Legion, Keosauqua. Memorials to the American Cancer Society or Van Buren Good Samaritan Center may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family, 916 Country Lane Road, Apt. 12, Keosauqua, Iowa 52565.
