He was born January 11, 1934 in Ottumwa to Thurlo and Ella McFall King. He married Masa Akutsu and she preceded him in death in 1995. He married Ruth Ann Saner on January 1, 2003 and she preceded him in death on February 23, 2012. A 1952 graduate of Ottumwa High School, James served with the U.S. Army in Korea. A 1952 graduate of Ottumwa High School, James served with the U.S. Army in Korea. He worked for 35 years for the Iowa Department of Transportation. Surviving are two sons, James T. (Shirley) King of Nebo, NC and Jerry G. (Tammy) King of Burlington; two daughters, Meiko Akutsu of Austin, TX and Marie King of Ottumwa; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Exline of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Delmer, Arnold and Lowell Dale King and an infant sister, Mary Helen King. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Reva Rimmer officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. The family will be present one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa Hospice.
