Stephens, son of Martin Luther and Jane Ann Stephens, was born at Alleghaney City, Pa., November 11, 1865, and departed this life November 14, 1944, at the age of 79 years and 3 days, at his home northeast of Munden, Kan. His early life was spent in Indiana and Illinois, coming to Munden with his parents in 1880. He later moved to Colorado where he spent several years. Stephens, son of Martin Luther and Jane Ann Stephens, was born at Alleghaney City, Pa., November 11, 1865, and departed this life November 14, 1944, at the age of 79 years and 3 days, at his home northeast of Munden, Kan. His early life was spent in Indiana and Illinois, coming to Munden with his parents in 1880. He later moved to Colorado where he spent several years. During his stay in Colorado he met and married Martha Jane Gilstrap on October 19, 1892, and to this union were born six children. From Colorado they moved to Missouri in 1896 and in 1899 moved to Republic county, Kan., where he spent the remainder of his life. His wife, Martha Jane, preceded him in death, passing away on March 9, 1931, at the age of 64 years. He leaves to mourn his departure, his children, three daughters, Grace Willoughby of Munden, Kan., Verna Kvasnicka of Portland, Ore., Gladys Godden of Hubbell, Neb.; three sons, Charles H. Stephens of Mackay, Idaho, William A. Stephens of Compton, Cal., and George Stephens of Munden, Kan.; also 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one brother, Charles E Stephens of Randolph. Kan., one sister, Mrs. Harley Baldwin of Portland, Ore., besides a host of relatives and friends. He was a kind and loving husband and father and a friend to all who knew him. Funeral services were held in the Munden Methodist church with the Rev. John W. Frint officiating, November 18, 1944. Burial was in the Ida cemetery.
