Read More	James Leder, 83, of east Freeman, SD, died peacefully at home Nov 19, 2019 after an 11 plus year battle with four different kinds of cancer. James (Jim) Leder was born, September 18, 1936, the son of Herman and Ella (Graber) Leder of Freeman SD. As a child, he attended Brookside School no. 65. He continued his education at Freeman Academy until his father became ill and he had to help on the family farm. Upon his confession of faith, he was baptized and became a member of the Salem Mennonite Church. He was joined in marriage to Donna Jorstad on July 1, 1962. He was confirmed in his faith and became a member of the Salem Lutheran Church until his passing. During his later days, he recommitted his faith in the Lord. Two children were born to this union, Kimberly Kelly and Troy James. Their son Troy, died in a tragic accident October 13, 1977 at the age of 11. This tragedy forever changed Jim’s life. Jim spent most of his life on the family farm east of Freeman. His cattle were very important to him. He milked for over thirty years, raised beef, chickens and hogs. Until recently, he was able to care for his cattle with the help of his children and grandchildren. His daily routine would begin with a cup of coffee and a cookie lathered in butter. He then would ride his four-wheeler around the farm to get some fresh air to clear his head, check cattle, fences and care for his dog and many cats. A week and a half before passing, Jim was outside doing what he loved; supervising chute work and the sale of his cattle. Jim’s strong work ethic and compassion showed when working with his animals. He passed these traits down to his family. Kim and Jim shared a love for cattle. They had many good times going to cattle sales together looking for a good bargain. Most nights Jim and Kim would talk on the phone discussing their cattle and making plans regarding what needed to be done on the farm. He was most proud of his three grandchildren: Tylor James, Alexander Troy and Grace Anne Kock. He loved watching and supporting them during sporting events and at the Turner County Fair with their projects, cattle and horse shows. Their relationship was full of teasing and practical jokes. Jim had nicknames for everyone. Going to the Prairie Center at Avera was a social outing for Jim. His visits were made enjoyable by the opportunity to tease the nurses and care givers. Jim loved spending time with Tina “Spike”, Christen, Nancy and B. James is survived by his wife, Donna; daughter, Kimberly (Larry) Kock of Lennox, SD; three grandchildren: Tylor Kock (Valene Knutson) of Kirksville, MO; Alexander Kock of Sioux Center, IA; Grace Kock, Lennox, SD; sister, Ardis Jantzen of Freeman, SD; brother-in-law, Moses Glanzer of Freeman, SD; sister-in-law, Wadie Leder of Canistota, SD; brother-in-law, Duane (Marion) Jorstad; sister-in-law, Maurine (James) Pederson all of Sioux Falls, SD; and host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a son, Troy Leder; his parents, Herman and Ella Leder; sister, Reva Glanzer; brother, Willis Leder; brother-in-law, Edwin Jantzen; mother-in-law, Esther Jorstad.
