Read More	Tragic Accident Claims Life of James Branstetter The Community was shocked by the tragic death of James Lee Branstetter, 21, who drowned in Eureka Lake Saturday evening when his boat capsized. He was duck hunting with his father, J.D. Branstetter, and had rowed out in a boat to retrieve a duck. The victim's father, who was on the bank, obtained another boat and rowed out in the lake but was unable to find his son. The young man, clad in heavy hunting clothes and boots, was unable to swim out of the icy water. The Eureka fire department was summoned, and with the assistance of the police and other volunteer help, dragged the lake for two hours before the body was recovered about 8:00 p.m. James Lee Branstetter, son of James D. and Bessie Ann Branstetter, was born in Eureka September 2, 1937. He lived in and near Eureka all his life. He attended the College of Emporia for two years. James was united with the First Christian church May 15, 1949. He was married to Gracie White on August 2, 1957. They made their home in Eureka where he was employed at the A.C. Houston Lumber Company. He is survived by his wife, parents of the home, and one sister, Mrs. Albert Leslie, of Hutchinson. Also surviving are three nephews, two nieces, and a number of aunts and uncles. Funeral service was held from the Baird Funeral Home Wednesday, December 10, at 2:00 p.m., conducted by the Reverend Ralph Keller. Internment was in the Greenwood Cemetery.
