Description	:	The following info is from James' pension for his service in the war - his pension number being S5695. James applied for his pension on June 7, 1832 and was awarded a pension on Oct 7, 1835. According to the War Dept., this James Linn was the only James Linn serving in the Revolutionary War in Pennsylvania. James was born in January 1760 in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania where he was still living when he enlisted in the war and continued to live there until 1781 at which time he moved to Washington County and lived there the... Read More	The following info is from James' pension for his service in the war - his pension number being S5695. James applied for his pension on June 7, 1832 and was awarded a pension on Oct 7, 1835. According to the War Dept., this James Linn was the only James Linn serving in the Revolutionary War in Pennsylvania. James was born in January 1760 in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania where he was still living when he enlisted in the war and continued to live there until 1781 at which time he moved to Washington County and lived there the rest of his life other than the years of 1791 to 1798 in Allegheny County. James died on December 24, 1838 in North Strabane Township, Washington Co., PA. He enlisted as a Private in the Amer Rev War in December 1776 in Lancaster County in the Pennsylvania Continental Line for 2 months under Col. James Rogers. At one point, James and his regiment were marched to Morristown "where the army lay encamped under Gen. Washington". Once discharged from service, James was drafted back into service in October 1777 for two months under Capt. Patrick Hays and took part in a skirmish at Chestnut Hill, PA. Immediately after being discharged from his 2nd tour, James re-enlisted for another two months in December 1777 and was marching to Philadelphia and was within miles of it when they heard the enemy firing upon the city and the enemy's drums calling the soldiers to arms. James' regiment retreated and were chased by the British for many miles.
