Burial Aurora Cemetery Aurora Newspaper James McClay was born in Dinygahl (Donegal), Ireland, in the year 1830 and died at the home of his son, W.J. McClay, in aurora October 18, 1917, aed 86 years, 9 months and 18 days. On the 9th of June, 1859, he was united in marriage to Nancy Ann Wilson at Philadelphia. To this union five children were born. The oldest, Fannie Shaner, died twenty-six years ago. The others are: Mrs. Anna Dunham of Griggsville, IL, Mrs. Hannah Palmer of chickasha, OK, and William John McClay of Aurora, all of whom were with their father during his last hours. There are also several grandchildren. Mr. McClay united with the Presbyterian church in Salem, IL, living in his later years a devoted Christrian life, awaiting the time when he should meet his Maker. He enlisted in the Civil war at the age of 28 years, serving in Company B, 26th volunteer infantry, in the year '61, and in '62 he again enlisted in Company G, 99th Pennsylvania volunteers and served until the end of the war, when he was honorably discharged from the Army of the Potomac. He served in the Battles of Gettysburg, Fredricksburg, the Wilderness and Bull Run. His wife preceded him four years ago. Since then he has been in the solderis' home at Grand Island until five weeks ago, when he came to the home of his son on account of his illness. He was very feeble and failed rapidly during the last days. He passed away without suffering and was conscious to the end. He patiently waited the time to come with full faith in the Supreme Being. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:30 at the Presbyterian church, Rev J.D. M. Buckner of the Methodist church officiating. Interment was made in the Aurora cemetery.
