Read More	Mrs. Lewis Rites Friday Resident of County for More Than 50 Years Died at Marquette Funeral services for Mrs. George Lewis were held from the United Brethren church in Marquette Friday June 28, 1940 with the Rev. Lyle Anderson officiating. Ellen Mary McClay, daughter of James and Nancy McClay was born June 12, 1866 at Philadelphia, PA and departed this life at her home in Marquette, Hamilton, NE on June 25, 1940, at the age of 74 years and 13 days. At the age of three years she moved with her parents to Pike county, Illinois, later coming to Nebraska where she resided until her departure. On Sept 8, 1886, she was united in marriage to George Lewis, to which union five children were born. Remaining to mourn her passing is her husband, George Lewis, one daughter Mrs. Mabel Sawyer of Hampton, Hamilton, NE; four sons, Lee of Grand Island, Roy of Marquette, Glenn of Hampton and Charles of Fullerton, NE; one brother, John McClay, Aurora, Hamilton, NE; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Palmer of Phoenix, AZ and Mrs. L.O. Dunham of Maywood, MO; 13 grandchildren and four great granchildren; one sister and one great grand child preceded her in death. She leaves a host of other relatives and friends. She with her husband and family have resided in Hamilton county continuously with the exception of two years in Phelps county and three years in York county. Mrs. Lewis was of a sympathic nature and an understanding mother, which fitted her well for her work with children, she having taught a class of little boys and girls in the Marquette Sunday school for a number of years. This work was very near to her and she continued with it faithfully against handicaps until failing health forced her retirement. She rejoiced in the fact that she had seen these boys and girls of her class grow in years to where they now hold responsible positions in the Sunday school and in life's work. The esteem these boys and girls hold for her is clearly indicated by the large number of greeting cards she had received during her last illness. Mrs. Lewis was a member of the Marquette United Brethren church, the woman's aid society and the Royal Neighbors of America, and enjoyed greatly helping with the work of these organizations, having servced as president of the woman's aid for a period of years. In her home she was never happier than when the children and grandchildren were all home to spend the day with her. She was a true home lover, and many times was doing for her family when hardly able to do for herself. In these days of trials her faith in the Supreme Ruler never swerved. She was a good wife and mother and will be greatly missed by her husband and family, as well as friends.
