Read More	The Recorder, Gore Bay, Thursday, August 27, 1914, Fatal accident at Mindemoya James Love Killed in His Barn on Friday While unloading oats in his barn at Mindemoya on Friday morning Mr.James Love met a sudden and painful death. He was standing on a beam at the top of the barn operating part of the unloader when the rope gave away and the heavy load drew the machine back suddenly, catching him in the side as it went and throwing him out through the sides of the barn falling on his face in the barn yard. When picked up, he was unconscious and never revived, passing away at noon. The force with which he was thrown may be imagined from the fact that when his body struck the wall of the barn, the boards were smashed and his body landed at least ten feet away from the barn. He was badly bruised and possibly injured internally. The deceased was a pioneer on the Manitoulin, coming here 45 years ago from Dundas. He leaves five daughters and one son, besides his widow,to mourn his death. John, at home, being his only son. The daughters are: Mrs. Joseph Hopkins, Mrs. R. Conley, at Mindemoya, Mrs. J. Miller, Markdale, and Margaret and Grace at home. The funeral took place from his late residence on Sunday afternoon, and was conducted by the Rev. Wm. Munro, of Providence Bay. A large number of friends and neighbors were present to show their respect for the deceased and their sympathy for the bereaved family. Obituary, uncited James Love The people of the community were shocked Friday afternoon, August 25, to hear that Mr. James Love had met with an accident that caused his death. Caught by a wheel of the weight lifter which was used to elevate the loads of grain, he was driven through the end of the barn, and dropped a descent of twenty feet outside. The accident was caused by the rope which is drawn by horses to elevate the load breaking when the load was almost in position. Mr. Love was apparently trying to get the dog in position in the cogs of the wheel in order to check its rapid revolution, caused by the weight of the descending load, when he overbalanced himself and falling on the wheel, was carried to his death. The accident occurred about 8 AM and his spirit fled about noon, he never having recovered consciousness. The grief stricken family have the profound sympathy of the entire community in their terribly sudden bereavement and irreparable loss. Mr. James Love was born in Wentworth County, Ontario, in 1852. He was the son of the late Thomas Love, his mother's maiden name being Agnes Hamilton. She was the mother of fifteen children, eleven by her first marriage and four by her second. All of the first family are now dead excepting Mr. Thomas Love of Providence Bay. All of the second family survive. There are Mr. Wm. Vincer, of Mindemoya, clerk of Carnarvon and District Registrar, Mrs. W.I. Bain, Mrs. J.E. Hilborn, of Tehkummah, and Mr. R.H. Cairns, of Vancouver. Mr. Love came to Manitoulin in September, 1879. He worked in the lumber camps at Michael's Bay for a year, and in the winter of 1871 and 1872, returned to Old Ontario. He returned to the Manitoulin in the spring of 1872 and settled on the farm on which he remained until his death. In 1876 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Fields Robinson. Besides his widow he leaves one son and five daughters, four children having died at an early age. Mr. Love was an elder of the Presbyterian denomination and had a wam interest in all who loved the Lord, irrespective of denominational name. he was also Superintendent of Mindemoya Sunday School for over 20 years. He was possessed of a strong frame and was industrious in his habits. These, together with his good judgement and kindly heart raised him to a position of comfort, influence and favour in the community. He will be much missed in the home, in the community and in the Church. The pall bearers were Messrs. George Bond, John Galbraith, John Cooper, Wm. Hare, John Cochrane and Thomas Farquhar. The casket was covered with flowers, including a wreath from the Adult Bible Class, and another from the girls' class of Willing workers.
