Phinnery Rites Held Monday Funeral services for Loyd Phinney, 83, Ree heights, were held Monday morning in the Ree Heights United Church of Christ Congregational. The Rev. Donald Greenough officiated at the rites, and burial was made in the GAR Cemetery at Miller. Active pallbearers were James, Jr., Theron, Bayard, Brent and Michael Phinney, all sons, and Gregory Aymar, a grandson. Honorary pallbeares were Gottlieb Pietz, Cliff Van Der Aarde, Alfred Bouren, Marsh Johnson, Tom McGee, Clare Cahoon, Ausust Nelson, Frank Moody, Wendell Beck, and Roy Hammill. Mr. Phinney died Thursday, August 19, in an Aberdeen hospital. He was born November 28, 1892 to Mr. and Mrs. George Phinney on a homestead claim south of Ree Heights, and his entire life was spent in the county, with the exception of the time he served in the army during the first World War. He was wounded in the Battle of Meusse Argonne September 28, 1918, and received the Purple Heart. November 22, 1919 he was married to Ila Blake in Miller, and they were the parents of twelve children. Survivors are his widow, Ree Heights; five daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Kathryn) McClendon, Rockford, Ill., Mrs. Clifford (Evelyn) Boldt, Mrs. Perry (Roslyn) Struse, both of Miller, Mrs. LaVerne (Marilyn) Aymar, Ree Heihgts, Mrs. Morris (Carolyn) Jacobsen, Sioux Falls; five sons, James Phinney, Jr., Lead, Theron of Henderson, Nevada, Bayard of Miller, Brent of Ree Heights, Michael of Alexandria; brother, Fred of Miller; sister, Mrs. William (Lillian) Harris, Cresco, Iowa; 26 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons and two grandsons.
