Description	:	James M. Deardorff, 98, Kokomo, passed away at 1:35 pm Monday, March 12, 2018, at Northwoods Village in Kokomo. He was born March 26, 1919, in Kokomo. He was the son of the late Marcus & May (Tate) Deardorff. On June 22, 1940, he married Geraldine L. Jerry Eades, at the United Brethren Church by Rev. Benjamin Smith, and she preceded him in death on June 6, 2010. James was a 1937 graduate of Muncie Burris High School. He served during WWII with the United States Navy. He was born March 26, 1919, in Kokomo. He was the son of the late Marcus & May (Tate) Deardorff. On June 22, 1940, he married Geraldine L. Jerry Eades, at the United Brethren Church by Rev. Benjamin Smith, and she preceded him in death on June 6, 2010. James was a 1937 graduate of Muncie Burris High School. He served during WWII with the United States Navy. He had also been employed with J.B. Ortman of Ortman Well Drilling. James then went to work for Delco Electronics where he retired as an Electrician. James was a member of Highland Park Church, UAW Local #292, and a 50 year member of UCT (United Commercial Travelers). He enjoyed traveling to their home in Clearwater, Florida, and he and Jerry where very active in the Kokomo Senior Center. James kept in touch with family writing letters using his typewriter as recently as December. He was an avid history buff and very well informed as to current events. James loved to play cards and was involved in the Bible study at Northwoods Commons. James is survived by his daughters, Sondra (Gary) Tobias, Texas, and Darlene Berry, Kokomo, along with 7 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 2 step great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Stern, Arizona; half-brother, David Deardorff, along with several nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Bea Deardorff, wife, brother, Phil Deardorff, sister, Pat Abersoll, son-in-law, Paul Berry, and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Highland Park Church, 516 W. Sycamore Street, Kokomo, with Pastor Ed Vasicek officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Private entombment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 12:30-1:30 Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in James memory to Highland Park Church.
